Mitch Rapp faces an Iranian foe bent on destabilizing the Middle East in the newest thriller from Vince Flynn’s #1 New York Times bestselling series, now written by the “worthy successor to Tom Clancy” (Publishers Weekly) Don Bentley.

April 2011: On a remote mountaintop overlooking the remains of the Iranian nuclear weapons program, Azad Ashani witnesses a Quds Force demonstration of a capability meant to upend America’s war in the Middle East. Ashani, director of the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and Security and Irene Kennedy’s former back channel to the Iranian government, recognizes the demonstration’s true significance, and the nation-ending conflict it will provoke. Alone, Ashani stands no chance of preventing this rush to madness.

But with the help of one man, he just might.

In Washington, DC, CIA director Irene Kennedy briefs the president that the operational window to kill or capture Osama bin Laden at his recently discovered compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan is rapidly closing. But before he’ll authorize a commando raid on Pakistani soil, the president demands irrefutable proof of bin Laden’s presence.

Proof he trusts just one man to provide.

Preventing a looming war in the Middle East while delivering justice for the nearly 3,000 Americans killed on 9/11 would be a big ask for anyone.

Mitch Rapp isn’t just anyone.

Reviews

  • I read this book so you don’t have to.

Before I wrote this I read some of the other reviews. And my suspicions were correct. This “Novel” or “book” or “story” is horrible. We have dead characters come back to life. There is no continuity. Some characters are completely missing. I get it the “time” is May 2011 but come on now. Mitch Rapp as we know him, is dead. We do not need anymore books.
  • Stain on the Rapp franchise

I’m a huge Rapp fan, but this book was awful. The writing style is lazy, the dialogue doesn’t sound like Rapp, (or others) and the fact that it’s set a decade plus ago with Nash, and other dead characters in it was confusing and pointless. It was light on the gritty action and dialogue that Rapp is known for, and didn’t hold my attention in the way all the other Rapp books have. Kyle Mills did a great job as a flag bearer for the franchise but Don Bentley will hopefully not write Rapp books again. I’m amazed that the publishers signed off on this as worthy of the Flynn name.
  • Disappointing!

I am at 20% of the book and not sure I will finish it. To say that it’s weak it’s an understatement. How many times one can write a name (Ashani) in the prologue? Mike Nash is Lazarus? Why the need for a huge write up after every sentence a character says? Rapp is tough - even a first time reader gets it, no need to repeat it in every single page that talks about him. And if Irene and the president know better than to question Rapp’s decisions and actions, how on God’s green earth the mission in Iran was not cancelled? That was totally outrageous! A shame really…. It was a pen (or probably a keyboard) that killed Mitch Rapp…

Once again, Mitch Rapp rises to the occasion; he saves the day repeatedly, yet, these wins cost him more than in previous books. Using the Bin Laden raid as background, Rapp, using an array of support from foreign and domestic sources, is able to put puzzles together better than anyone. A deeper look at who Mitch Rapp is as a person, makes for heartfelt moments.
  • Just ok.

Seemed half the book was explaining and then repeating who a person was, how they came to be, their abilities and beliefs. This book was light on action compared to previous books.

I am at 51% of this book but I am so annoyed I cannot wait to finish it before I leave a review. 1. WHAT THE HECK IS NASH DOING BEING REVIVED FROM THE DEAD? A series of books creates continuity. Where is the continuity in this book? 2. Speaking of continuity what happened to Claudia and Anna? Poof she is gone and not mentioned. Neither is her daughter or where they live or are hiding out. 3. Rapp is kind of being a jerk to people. He has always been direct but not so much an Axx hole. Change in personality? 4. Where did Sexton go after getting rescued? Did Mitch offer to buy him a beer later? Was he hurt? Did he smell better after he hit the water? Why didn’t Mitch make a joke about that? At 51% read, this is my 51% of review. I will come back once I’m done. IM BACK: 5. What is up with the .50 cent words? Flexing your vocabulary needlessly! 6. STAN HURLEY IS DEAD SO HOW DOES HE SHOW UP IN THIS BOOK? Wrong on so many levels! This book falls far from the Vince Flynn and Kyle Mills I am used to. I will give it one more chance and then, if there is no improvement, I will sadly move on. May have been better to name this book something other than a Mitch Rapp book and change the individual names from Mitch, Scott, etc. With different names and no expectation of continuity this may have been a much better review. • Timely

This book came out just before 9/11. Very timely and those who read it will get what I mean. There were really three or four different plots going on at the same time. Obvious Mitch was on top of all of it. Irene was great. Stan made a fantastic appearance. At times the descriptions of the ornaments got a little bit long, but I can understand the rationale.

I kept thinking that I had already read this book. It’s a similar storyline to some others in the genre and was not creative. I’m not a fan of plots that occur in the past, especially when a character like Mike Nash is in them.
  • Boring. Nothing like Flynn.

Over written. Weak dialogue. Way, way too wordy! This is the first Rapp book I did not finish. Just too boring.
