NAMED OF THE BEST ROMANCES BY OPRAH MAG!

Although beautiful young widow Phoebe, Lady Clare, has never met West Ravenel, she knows one thing for certain: he’s a mean, rotten bully. Back in boarding school, he made her late husband’s life a misery, and she’ll never forgive him for it. But when Phoebe attends a family wedding, she encounters a dashing and impossibly charming stranger who sends a fire-and-ice jolt of attraction through her. And then he introduces himself...as none other than West Ravenel.

West is a man with a tarnished past. No apologies, no excuses. However, from the moment he meets Phoebe, West is consumed by irresistible desire...not to mention the bitter awareness that a woman like her is far out of his reach. What West doesn’t bargain on is that Phoebe is no straitlaced aristocratic lady. She’s the daughter of a strong-willed wallflower who long ago eloped with Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent—the most devilishly wicked rake in England.

Before long, Phoebe sets out to seduce the man who has awakened her fiery nature and shown her unimaginable pleasure. Will their overwhelming passion be enough to overcome the obstacles of the past?

Only the devil’s daughter knows…

  • Great addition to series

It’s been awhile since I read a historical romance and this reminded me why I love the genre. Phoebe was strong and true to herself. I’m glad that she quickly took charge of learning her estate and didn’t fall into gender roles. I’m also glad that she stayed true to loving her first husband while fully embracing West and her feelings for him. She was very clear in her feelings and didn’t play games. West was great as well. He had childhood trauma that made me understand his worries/insecurities even though it gave me whiplash at one point. I loved seeing the Wallflowers and Kingston again. I’m glad he played a role in their story. Looking forward to continuing the series.

This series is so very good. You could just read this book alone but, why deprive yourself. There are five more books with these characters.

I thought this was great. And to know West, you may want to read the series in order. It could be that starting with The Ravenels Book 2 (or Book 1) makes the subsequent books more interesting/fun. I really love the evolution of West’s character, and Phoebe is a fierce heroine! Very strong single mom vibe that was extremely appealing.

Honestly a top 3, if not my #1 favorite, historical romance book! West Ravenel is my dream guy and his character development from the first book to this is so great. Read this book!!

I like that there was redemption. The female lead was strong enough to take charge and go for it. The male lead was strong enough to let her

I LOVE Lisa Kleypas. Her writing is the reason I started loving historical romance novels. However, I expected more from West and Phoebe. The ending was abrupt and boring. The other books in this series were so amazing that I was excited for this one, but sadly it was lacking in content.

I was expecting so much more. It felt like Phoebe was the one doing all the heavy lifting in the relationship and as much I love West he was a pansy in this book. However, once again the appearance of Sebastian and Evie even for a short moment gave me goosebumps cause their story is still and will always be the best. The end was soooooooooooo ridiculously abrupt and I felt like there was no real climax in the story. Not bad, but to have waited almost two years for this book I was expecting so much more.

I was so excited to read West’s story, having loved him through other books. While he was as charming as ever, and it was enjoyable to revisit other characters, Phoebe was rather flat and the story lacked any real conflict. The love scenes lacked chemistry and creativity. The writing, surprisingly, wasn’t engaging; I found myself skipping over large chunks of unnecessary and clumsily written exposition. Also, Kleypas used some phrases and slang that felt out of place and threw me out of the world of the book. As others have said, the ending was a huge disappointment, but was, in its way, on par with the book as a whole: rushed, tepid, and unfulfilling. The last three releases by Kleypas have gotten progressively worse. I’ve read all of her work, but I may not be back for the next one.
