Returning to the South Australian Riverland for her best friend Lily's wedding, Rachel Raymond is more than happy to be taking a break from her life as a foreign correspondent. But while she's left war-torn Afghanistan behind her, the horror of what she's seen won't let go of her. Plagued by nightmares, Rachel slowly begins to unravel.

Fireman Tate Cassidy is instantly attracted to the tough and beautiful Rachel. But as that attraction grows he begins to see there is something not quite right about her. Despite his concern for her, he has his own emotional demons to fight and he begins to see that they may have more in common that just mutual attraction.
