    Not a big fan of harem stories, but Maomao is such a terrific character thriving in a male dominated culture. She is aware of the world, understands the need and strength to accommodate, and brings her love of knowledge and justice to bear. The manga is delightful capturing Maomao’s smart mind and brings to life the inner imperial court world of medieval “eastern” Asia. Capturing Maomao’s quick mind, inner dialog, and joy de vie in the drawings and dialog make this a favorite of mine. I look forward to more manga and hope the light novel gets published in English and even dream of an anime.
