Over the course of his 60 years, Christopher Hitchens has been a citizen of both the United States and the United Kingdom. He has been both a socialist opposed to the war in Vietnam and a supporter of the U.S. war against Islamic extremism in Iraq. He has been both a foreign correspondent in some of the world's most dangerous places and a legendary bon vivant with an unquenchable thirst for alcohol and literature. He is a fervent atheist, raised as a Christian, by a mother whose Jewish heritage was not revealed to him until her suicide.

In other words, Christopher Hitchens contains multitudes. He sees all sides of an argument. And he believes the personal is political.

This is the story of his life, lived large.

I throughly enjoyed listening to this book (twice) and I'll probably purchase the iBook just to see how well written the book is. I particularly loved the excerpt of questions at the end of the book. Hitchens should compile more of these question and answer sequences and publish them.

I usually read fiction. After reading this beautifully written book, I realized I have been living fiction as well. I fell in love with Mr. Hitchens life. I wish I could write as well as this author. Then I could write the review he deserves.

There are few books I have savored such as this. I've read this book slowly, lovingly, marking every word I did not know - or have dwelled upon possible conversation the word may have caused. The voice, it's sound rang through as though Christopher spoke the book aloud and to me particularly. The formality, or correctness with which the stories are written, is a model of some perfection, in my view. Always, I have enjoyed the fine mind of this man. Now I have his own stories and settings to go with the opinions, the strongly established positioning on so many fronts, tied to family, friends, adversaries even. I cannot bear his illness, selfishly I say - a too much sort of guy, yet not enough of him for me. More, please Chris, be well.

I have read Hitchens other great works like God is not Great and thus a look into his life was enlightening. If you enjoy the book watch the CNN AC360 interview to learn his outlook on life after being diagnosed with cancer. A great man that has influenced the world for the better. He will be missed.
