Keith Stoner, ex-astronaut turned physicist, knows the signal that his research station is receiving from space is not random. Whatever it is, it's real.

And it's headed straight for Earth.

He'll do anything to be the first man to go out to confront this enigma. Even lose the only woman he's ever really loved.

And maybe start a world war.

The character development is great. The premiss is very good. The main character is poor. You get the idea of a ninja with a PhD and a heart of gold. The author's ideas about martial arts are more like that found in an action flick. Sorry Been you can't kick down a cyclone fence or crush a skull with a single kick. You don't check a computer's N-body calculations or trajectories by hand ...... Well not in less than a week. I could go one, but I won't. None of this would have matters if the novel was a "StarTreck" like book. However, it was presented as a hard science fiction novel. As such the main character should stay in bounds with reality or there needs to be an explanation why. Just as a side, the whole book seemed like a 1970 work. Maybe its a re-release.
