It’s aged like fine wine. It still holds up.

I really hoped that Small had actually hidden the stones somewhere else rather than throw them in the river and Holmes would find them. I guess I am more materilistic than I admit

Sign of Four was fantastic. Doyle's action packed writing keeps the reader interested. I just wish the book was longer. The ending was mildly unsatisfactory.

The Sherlock Holmes stories by A.C. Doyle are always intriguing and the true precursor to the modern detective story. Whether you like Jim Rockford or Endeavor Morse, you will find Holmes pleasing. While Watson is certainly more narrator than participant, it is always enjoyable to imagine a competent Watson instead of the incredulous Nigel Bruce of the well-known movie series. Definitely recommend this and all the Doyle stories to fans of the RDJ/Jude Law films and PBS viewers. The game is afoot!

It is always refreshing to step back and visit old writing in its original state. The style was vey matter of fact and it gives you an incredible sense of the era and values associated with it. A thoroughly enjoyable read and one that has stood the test of time.
