A page-turning novel that is also an exploration of the great philosophical concepts of Western thought, Jostein Gaarder's Sophie's World has fired the imagination of readers all over the world, with more than twenty million copies in print.

One day fourteen-year-old Sophie Amundsen comes home from school to find in her mailbox two notes, with one question on each: "Who are you?" and "Where does the world come from?" From that irresistible beginning, Sophie becomes obsessed with questions that take her far beyond what she knows of her Norwegian village. Through those letters, she enrolls in a kind of correspondence course, covering Socrates to Sartre, with a mysterious philosopher, while receiving letters addressed to another girl. Who is Hilde? And why does her mail keep turning up? To unravel this riddle, Sophie must use the philosophy she is learning—but the truth turns out to be far more complicated than she could have imagined.

I don’t get why are people hating on it in the comments. It’s a really fun, good, book to read. And it really helped me with school, although i didn’t even think about school when purchasing/reading it.

I loved this book. It was a magnificent journey through western history and thought. It's intrigue made me want to expand on all the thought that we're presented here. Isn't that the ultimate goal of any book?

This is one of my favorite books ever. I read in for my senior AP English class and it just blew my mind. Everybody loved it just as much as I did. Gaarder gives his readers the general time line of philosophy and applies/demonstrates these philosophies through the plot. I wish there was a way that my hard copy could come with a digital download of this book, like those blu ray movies, so that I could have this book on my iPhone and read it whenever I can't have my book.

Great book but I downloaded it and there are pages missing. They have a red box in them saying fatal error. I re-downloaded twice and it still says the same thing. They are missing in important parts of the book. Please fix this so I can continue reading! I payed $10.00!
