Anthem is a dystopian fiction novella by Ayn Rand, written in 1937 and first published in 1938 in England. It takes place at some unspecified future date when mankind has entered another dark age characterized by irrationality, collectivism, and socialistic thinking and economics. Technological advancement is now carefully planned (when it is allowed to occur at all) and the concept of individuality has been eliminated.

It reminds me so much of “We” but with a unique flourish and style. It is a cautionary tale of the result of unbridled socialism. However, the protagonist seems to be heading toward another extreme-of narcissistic individualism.

Eye opening, and more relevant today than ever before. This book is a required read in my opinion, for anyone searching for actual knowledge in life, rather than the hogwash rhetoric that is being forcefed to them by the majority of the publications produced in today’s desensitized society.

A little bit predictable, but a good read none the less.

This distorted view of a not so perfect society really makes you ponder what is truly important. Although I don’t entirely agree with Ayn Rand’s conclusions, it was a good, quick read. Her ideas align more with an eastern mind or Hindu way of thinking.
