“Thrilling.” —The New York Times Book Review

Deep in the African rainforest, near the ruins of the Lost City of Zinj, a field expedition is brutally killed. At the Houston-based Earth Resources Technology Services, Inc., a horrified supervisor watches a gruesome video transmission of that ill-fated group and sees a haunting, grainy, man-like blur moving amongst the bodies. In San Francisco, an extraordinary gorilla named Amy, who has a 620-sign vocabulary, may hold the secret to that fierce carnage. Immediately, a new expedition is sent to the Congo with Amy in tow, descending into a secret, forbidden world where the only escape may be through the grisliest death.

As usual Michael Crichton’s novels provide scientific facts in their stories. The book is a quick read and is so much better than the movie.

Much better than the movie, I liked the book. Crichton filled it with plenty of science and historical info. I wouldn’t say it’s in his top books, and the end felt a little rushed, and I didn’t really connect with the characters but it was a fun read, I’m glad I did.

Good book. Well researched. Surprised not to see Fossey’s name in the references, but know she was not very social with people. Even though the computers referenced are dated compared to today, Michael provided enough information that you could easily fast forward to modern times.

This is a great book with an extremely slow beginning. I was unsure I could get through it but I am glad I did. The last two thirds of this book are some of the best pages I have ever read.

The book is pretty good. However most of the characters seem a little stale and you never really get attached to the except for Amy. There also never seemed to be any overwhelming situations where the reader was in constant suspense. I think I would have liked more it if they had involved the Kigani and the grey gorillas more often. Overall it is a decent book.
