WINNER OF FOURTEEN EISNER AWARDS When a savage creature known only as the Adversary conquered the fabled lands of legends and fairy tales, all of the infamous inhabitants of folklore were forced into exile. Disguised among the normal citizens of modern-day New York, these magical characters have created their own peaceful and secret society within an exclusive luxury apartment building called Fabletown. But when Snow White's party-girl sister, Rose Red, is apparently murdered, it is up to Fabletown's sheriff, a reformed and pardoned Big Bad Wolf, to determine if the killer is Bluebeard, Rose's ex-lover and notorious wife killer, or Jack, her current live-in boyfriend and former beanstalk-climber. Collects FABLES #1-5.

Really this was a great start to a series. The only problem I had was the pacing sometimes there will be a time where I'm not in the mood or don't have the strength and will to keep reading it. But after "forcing" myself to read past the boring and unnecessary things it picked up the pace. On a side note this book and hopefully the rest of the series is very political and nails it at that. The twist ending was really great and the build up to it was really great. The wrap was especially good. Overall it does deserve at least a look at when you're bored. 4/5

the plot twist was surprising but the usage of language and sexual content is a little to much for my taste.

I decided to pick this up after playing Telltale's wonderful "The Wolf Among Us" game. The lore and atmosphere of the game encapsulated me, so I knew that the source material ought to have been as good. The book starts out tremendously. You meet Bigby Wolf and a slue of fairy tale characters such Prince Charming, Jack (from Jack and the bean stalk) and my personal favorite, the Beast with his wife Beauty. The idea of having fairy tale characters transcending the real world was lightning in a bottle (so much so that many TV shows have attempted to use this formula). It's fun and interesting to hear Beauty and Beast's marriage problems or Bluebeard's attempt to wipe away his past crimes as a literal lady killer. It's a little quirky but captivating at the same time. The only issue I had (but frankly a huge one) was the ending. The story sets up to feel like the first part to a an overarching story, but it just ends like your average cop show. The story revolves around the disappearance (and assumed murder) of Snow White's sister. You will assume that there is some criminal mastermind behind it, but in the end it just turns out to be a mundane character that we weren't supposed to expect do it. The story ends like the movie Clue. Bigby explains how everything happened and why the unsuspected culprit did it. You have no way to piece this together because the motive and crime is so bizarre. Overall I was a bit disappointed in the ending. I thought the story was going somewhere, but in the end it feels like a TV show that has a different plot each episode. Play "The Wolf Among Us" instead.
