Union 2

This series began with a double exposure of flowing water. I had spent over 40 years making multiple exposures with a wide variety of cameras, my latest series had been with the discontinued iOS app DXP. Rene Magritte and Jerry Uelsmann have pushed compositing to a point where it is doubtful that there is any more room for anyone to drive this type of composition beyond what they have done. Jeff Wall and Andreas Gursky and the many, many photographers working in derivations of this style created by Wall and Gursky I see as the heirs of photo compositing. I don’t think either of them see any relationship to what they do to Uelsmann’s photography. With Union as with my DXP and Autostitch and Repieced Multiples photographs I am attempting to synthesize the style of these four people into a new way of compositing. Many of the Union photographs may be viewed as if something is quite wrong but it takes a few minutes to understand what is wrong with the space. The way that I use Union has its roots in my darkroom Multiple Images series and Photoshop Repieced Images series.
