A wonderfully written story about the early settlers of the Ohio Valley. It describes the many dangers that they encountered as well as the many pleasures they experienced as they carved out the settlements of the frontier. The story is set on the banks of the Ohio river in the states of West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky. A fantastic read!!!

Since I was a kid, I've always wanted to read a Zane Gray novel. This is my 2nd to read in the past year. It's easy to see why he is considered one of the great writers in American literature. The books seem to grab you after a few pages. A very easy read that paints vivid pictures.

I loved this book when I first read it in 1963. It was great and loved reading it again. Visited the area on 1967-68 while in the Navy with one of my ship mates. You will enjoy the book, it contains history, adventure, war, and a good love story.

This was a book I couldn't put down. I had no idea that such a thing like this really happened. Zane Gray was such a master story teller, but being about his family, and true for the most part about his family history makes it so much better.
